Strategies for finding reliable and useful sources for academic writing

Finding reliable and useful resources plays a significant role in academic writing. Therefore, there are some strategies that I can share with you how to look for dependable resources. When considering what counts as a “good” source, it’s clever to use CRAAP to evaluate it. First of all, we should take a look at published year or the publication date of the information. For example, if we are going to talk about Internet, it’s good to use current sources rather than past-information. Citing a research paper from 2000s about Internet will not have valuable information as up-to-date information within the past couple of years. Second, we should know exactly what kind of sources that are required by the assignments or the topics and good and suitable for your questions. This is because relevant information can help us to support and prove our thesis statements. What is more, authority is also a key part in finding useful resources. It can add credibility to our papers if we are using such as professor, doctor, specialists’ articles because they are experts and recognized as an authority in the field. It’s reliable to use information from websites which end with.org,.gov, or.edu. instead of.com. Furthermore, accuracy is crucial to all kinds of paper, especially to science-related topics because facts are important elements in science field. If information has errors or mistakes, it is impossible for audiences to learn new facts and knowledge. Finally, acknowledging purposes of the source help us to better understand author’s potential biases might have, and authors’ political, social, and cultural value might influence their perspectives.
